New Gift Card Laws
In past years the value of many gift cards expired or decreased in value within a year. However, in August 2010, new gift card laws went into effect for all gift cards sold which prohibit fees for 12 months and the cards cannot expire for five years. Also, if for some reason a gift card cannot be scanned, retailers are required to issue a new card at its current value.
