Stop Hackers From Accessing Your Accounts

Protect yourself now!
This information came from Kim Komando.  Kim always post excellent, helpful, free information to protect and help you while on -line.  Read this information carefully so that you understand it.  I did not grasp all of it on my first read.  You can never be too careful.  Protect yourself!

Stop hackers from accessing your accounts
A software developer has released a new extension for Firefox called FireSheep. It demonstrates the insecurity of many major Websites on public networks.
For example, it can help hackers access your Facebook account. Banking sites aren't affected by this extension.
All a hacker has to do is log on to a public network. Then he runs FireSheep and waits. Your account information will appear automatically when you log in. It doesn't matter what browser you're using.
Many sites encrypt login information. However, the rest of the communication is unencrypted. FireSheep grabs an unencrypted site cookie en-route to your computer. Using the cookie, the hacker can access your account.
The only way to counter this is to encrypt your communication. You can do this with another Firefox extension. It is called HTTPS Everywhere. And it forces many major Internet sites to communicate using encryption.
When encryption is active, a lock symbol will appear in your browser. This is usually located in the lower-right hand corner. If the lock appears broken or unlocked, you are not secure.
Note that this extension will break some features on some sites. Facebook Chat is an example. Go to Tools>>Add-ons>>HTTPS Everywhere>>Preferences. This lets you exclude certain sites.

Sears Early Black Friday Sale and $20.00 Coupon

Announced  this morning!
A WCPO TV news reporter announced an early  BlackFriday sale at Sears.   The sale starts this Friday, she also said that there will be a $20.00 coupon  in this Friday's Enquirer.  Check it out.  Sounds wonderful.
I also found this information online:
"Among the biggest retailers, Sears have a leaked Black Friday 2010 ad here entitled “Black Friday Now”. It will be a 2-day sale next week from October 29 to 30, 2010. While the site says that it is just the standard weekly circular of Sears camouflaged with the term “Black Friday” in order to increase sales, the said leaked ad will entitle consumers to earn double the reward points for every $1 spent."

Cincinnati, Hamilton County Residents only:

1800-GOOG-411 coming to an end.
Did you get this announcement on your cell phone when you dialed 1800-GOOG-411?  "GOOG-411 will no longer be available after November 11, 2010."
Google has just announced it is ending 800-GOOG-411 on November 12th, 2010, because it wants people to use its smart phone application instead.

So what's a caller to do? According to wcpo's John Matterese just enter the newest free service: 1-800-Bing-411. John says, just dial 1-800-B-I-N-G-411, and you can find local businesses, and even get traffic reports, movie showtimes, and weather.

Thanks, John

"Stop Breast Cancer"

Early detection is the only way to stop breast cancer.  Just as almost every family I know, my family has been hit or blinded sided by breast cancer.  We must get the word out to every woman; that early detection is the key.  The National Breast Cancer Foundation has a website https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/edp/Default.aspx  go there to create a plan for your self.  Tell all of your girlfriends to do the same.  The site will remind you to do regular breast self exams, to get your clinical exam from your doctor and when to get your mammogram.  Stop Breast Cancer in it's tracks.  Early Detections is the key!

Visit my 10/23/10 post on breast cancer awareness for the self exam tutorial.

Examine a Breast and Save a Life

It's Breast Cancer awareness month:   Every woman and every man; exam your breast.   Save A Life!
Too many people are dying; the life you save may be your own. If there is something there, don't you want to know early? So you can get the treatment that will save your life!  Check your breast at least once a month.  If there is a history of breast cancer in your family then check more ofter.   Just Do It, it is worth the time.

Breast awareness and self-exam

Beginning in their 20s, women should be told about the benefits and limitations of breast self-exam (BSE). Women should be aware of how their breasts normally look and feel and report any new breast changes to a health professional as soon as they are found. Finding a breast change does not necessarily mean there is a cancer.
A woman can notice changes by knowing how her breasts normally look and feel and feeling her breasts for changes (breast awareness), or by choosing to use a step-by-step approach and using a specific schedule to examine her breasts.
Women with breast implants can do BSE. It may be useful to have the surgeon help identify the edges of the implant so that you know what you are feeling. There is some thought that the implants push out the breast tissue and may make it easier to examine. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding can also choose to examine their breasts regularly.
If you choose to do BSE, the following information provides a step-by-step approach for the exam. The best time for a woman to examine her breasts is when the breasts are not tender or swollen. Women who examine their breasts should have their technique reviewed during their periodic health exams by their health care professional.
It is acceptable for women to choose not to do BSE or to do BSE occasionally. Women who choose not to do BSE should still know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any changes to their doctor right away.

How to examine your breasts

Lie down on your back and place your right arm behind your head. The exam is done while lying down, not standing up. This is because when lying down the breast tissue spreads evenly over the chest wall and is as thin as possible, making it much easier to feel all the breast tissue.
Use the finger pads of the 3 middle fingers on your left hand to feel for lumps in the right breast. Use overlapping dime-sized circular motions of the finger pads to feel the breast tissue.
Use 3 different levels of pressure to feel all the breast tissue. Light pressure is needed to feel the tissue closest to the skin; medium pressure to feel a little deeper; and firm pressure to feel the tissue closest to the chest and ribs. It is normal to feel a firm ridge in the lower curve of each breast, but you should tell your doctor if you feel anything else out of the ordinary. If you're not sure how hard to press, talk with your doctor or nurse. Use each pressure level to feel the breast tissue before moving on to the next spot.

Illustration of breast self examination
Move around the breast in an up and down pattern starting at an imaginary line drawn straight down your side from the underarm and moving across the breast to the middle of the chest bone (sternum or breastbone). Be sure to check the entire breast area going down until you feel only ribs and up to the neck or collar bone (clavicle).
There is some evidence to suggest that the up-and-down pattern (sometimes called the vertical pattern) is the most effective pattern for covering the entire breast without missing any breast tissue.
Repeat the exam on your left breast, putting your left arm behind your head and using the finger pads of your right hand to do the exam.
While standing in front of a mirror with your hands pressing firmly down on your hips, look at your breasts for any changes of size, shape, contour, or dimpling, or redness or scaliness of the nipple or breast skin. (The pressing down on the hips position contracts the chest wall muscles and enhances any breast changes.)
Examine each underarm while sitting up or standing and with your arm only slightly raised so you can easily feel in this area. Raising your arm straight up tightens the tissue in this area and makes it harder to examine.
This procedure for doing breast self-exam is different from previous recommendations. These changes represent an extensive review of the medical literature and input from an expert advisory group. There is evidence that this position (lying down), the area felt, pattern of coverage of the breast, and use of different amounts of pressure increase a woman's ability to find abnormal areas.
