Earth Day: Let's be eco-friendly!

Earth day, a good day to begin an Eco Friendly Program.

I thought today I would share a few of my favorite eco friendly actions useing  my most favorite and cheapest eco friendly product. That product is White Vinegar.  White vinegar is one of the best and most widely used natural products and at a cost of less than $3.00 a gallon it is the most economical product you can use. White vinegar can be used in the laundry, the garden, for household cleaning, health care, automotive care, pet care and cooking.

There is a great website: www.vinegartips.com there are1001 uses for vinegar on the site, it is an education in itself.  Check it out. You will save a lot of money.

Here are a few of my favorite eco friendly vinegar actions you can start today.  I use these on a regular basis,  some of them I use everyday.

Bathroom uses:  This is my bathroom cleaning solution.
Mix 1 Cup Distilled White vinegar-1/2 Cup water and 1/8 cup dishwashing liquid (use a coupon) in a spray bottle.  Use it to clean  the bathroom tub-sink the floor etc. (Should not be used on certain tile)

Straight white vinegar kills mildew- spray your shower curtain, especially the bottom of the curtain to prevent mildew.  Trim the hem off of your plastic shower curtain liner and spray with your white vinegar at least once weekly. Leaving the shower curtain open and the door to the bathroom open following your shower will help things dry quickly  helping prevent mildew and mold.

Soak your toothbrush in 1 part white vinegar and three parts water to disinfect.  Keep your toothbrush covered if you leave it out in the bathroom.  I don't even want to go into why, just don't do it!.  I saw one of those gross reports on the National News or Oprah that totally grossed me out.  Enough said!

White vinegar will disinfect any soakable plastic product.  I'm a Home Health Nurse, we use 1/3 cup of white vinegar to 8 quarts of water and soak for 60 mins. to disinfect plastic equipment. Then air dry.

Dishwasher: To wash dishes mix 1Tablespoon Borax and 1Tablespoon Washing Soda in the detergent holder just as you would with a packaged detergent. Fill the rinse aid section with white vinegar and start the wash cycle.  Marvel at your clean dishes.
:
Laundry:  Add 1 Cup of White Vinegar to a regular load of laundry to freshen, deodorize,  brighten and soften your laundry, as with any new product test on your clothes before use.  I use vinegar in the rinse instead of fabric softners.  It softens and leaves no smell of vinegar.

Kitchen Uses: I got this tip from the produce person at the WalMart where I shop.  I was buying prewashed greens.  He told me to always wash any greens even if it has prewashed on the bag.  Add 4 tablespoons of white vinegar to 1 gallon of water and rinse your greens, always.

Disinfect and deodorize your kitchen drain and garbage disposal with 1 cup of baking soda and one cup of hot white vinegar.  Let solution sit in the drain for 5 mins. then flush with hot running water.Voila, clean fresh drain!

Keep cut flowers longer:  Add 2 tablespoons of White vinegar and 3 tablespoons of sugar to each quart of warm water - cut stems at an angle under water- immerse stems 3-4 inches into solution.  Enjoy!

Remove garlic, onion and fish odor from your hands by rubbing them before and after handling these odor producing foods.

If you are wearing a pearl ring, take it off before using vinegar.  Vinegar will dissolve pearls.

Let's be eco friendly and protect our earth. God gave us dominion over it.  It's in our hands.
 Genesis 1:28
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

    Happy Earth Day!
