Seven Money Saving Uses For Salt

Common table salt like vinegar has many "green" uses. It can easily replace many toxic and expensive cleaning products.  I'm sure you already have some uses for salt that you have tried. Post the in the comment section below and I will share them with everyone.

 1. Killing odors: On your cutting board.  Cover a wooden cutting board with a generous amount of regular salt.  Rub lightly, then wipe with a damp cloth.  Pour a half cup of salt into drains and garbage disposals that smell bad.  Let the salt sit for five minutes and rinse with cold or warm water.  Don't throw away the orange peel after you eat the orange.  Cut your orange in half eat the inside sections and fill the peel with salt for  a great almost free airfreshener.

2.  Rust remover:  Make a paste of two tablespoons of salt and one tablespoon of lemon juice.  Apply the paste with a dry cloth and rub briskly.

3.  Opening tight jar lids:  Pour a handful of salt in a bowl. Tip the jar upside down into the salt to immerse the lid, allowing the grains to sip between the lip of the lid and the threads of the jar.  Turn right-side up.  With a quick twist, the jar will open.

4. Run resistant Panty Hose:  Since Princess Kate was seen wearing panty hose there is again interest in them.. Here is a little trick to  make then more resistant to runs and help them last longer.  Wash then according to manufacturer's instructions and allow them to dry.  After thet have dried, soak them in a mixture of of two cups of salt and one gallon of water for three hours, rinse and let them dry.  It's and old solution but it works.

5.  Water ring on wood:  Apply a paste of equal parts salt and salad oil. Let paste stand for one minute.  wipe and polish.

6.  Cleaning silk flowers:  Place flowers into a large bag  and pour in one cup of salt and shake..dust gone.

7.  Wine Spills from Cotton fabric; (never on silk) While stain is still fresh, pour enough salt on the stain to soak up the liquid.Soak the fabric in cold water for 30 minutes.  Then was as usual.

Bananas turning dark before you can use them.  Don't dispair they can be used for smoothies or banana bread. Leave the peel on and put them in the freezer.  Take them out and mix them with some Vanilla yogurt for a great smoothie you can add other fruit as you like.  Just mash and add to your banana bread mix as you normally would.

Change the air filter in your furnace. they should be changed once a month. It's hot and your air conditioner is running over time, don't make it run through dust.  Get the best one for allergys be sure it is the correct size.
